Why "bring your own OpenAI key"?
Because it's honest. OpenAI charges by character converted, and the cost varies wildly between a 20-page paper and a 600-page book. By using your own key, you pay OpenAI directly at their published rate — no markup, no managed-quota games. A 300-page book runs about $11 on standard quality, $22 on HD. Cached chapters re-run for free.
How do I get an OpenAI API key?
Sign up at platform.openai.com, add a payment method, and create an API key from the dashboard. Takes about 5 minutes. The setup steps are walked through inside Audisle on first launch.
Will it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. Audisle automatically falls back to OCR (via PyMuPDF) when a PDF has no extractable text. Quality depends on the scan, but most modern scans work cleanly.
Can I use ElevenLabs voices instead?
Yes — ElevenLabs is supported as an optional provider if you have an account. Just paste your ElevenLabs API key into Audisle's settings. ElevenLabs voices are higher quality but cost more per character.
What happens to my PDF and the audio?
Both stay on your machine. Audisle processes everything locally and only sends the extracted text to OpenAI (your account, your key). No Audisle servers see your files.
Is there a refund policy?
